TitleSacramental register: Mission of St Rose of Lima [Santa Rosa], Moruca
Date1840-c 1853
LevelItem
DescriptionThe folios do not appear in a logical order - the first few pages are so badly damaged so as not to be comprehensible; the first legible section is a record of burials, 1843, not relating to Santa Rosa before the register proper begins; the earliest entries (1840) are towards the middle of the folios. Also includes notes entitled 'episcopal mandates, pastorals etc', 1843-1844.
Physical DescriptionBinding has disintegrated, folios out of order and flakey. Ink corrosion throughout. Some folios too fragile to be examined.
Admin_HistoryThe original paper wrapping had the following note, purportedy in Fr Henry Mather's hand: 'Ancient record of baptisms 1840 [marriages] burials etc. copied by Fr de Betham and also Fr Cullen's originals.' This appears to Fr Cullen's original register, rather than copies made by Fr de Betham. Cullen was an Irish priest who worked in and around the Santa Rosa mission prior to the arrival of the Jesuits in Guyana.
