Notes on the history of Loyola Hall. Includes family trees on the Bretherton family, former owners of Loyola Hall (Rainhill Hall, as it was known previously), notes on the parish of Rainhill, local traditions and legends, copies of maps of Rainhill, histories of the retreat movement in the early twentieth century, and preliminary chapters on the history of Loyola and Compstall Halls (early retreat house that preceeded Loyola) for Fr Christopher Dyckhoff' SJ's research.
Also includes hand-written prelimary chapters on the history of Loyola Hall (1945-1961) which examines the grounds, lecture rooms, the chapel and includes appendicies, printed chapters from Fr Chrisophter Dyckhoff SJ's publication 'A Quiet Place: A History of Loyola Hall', and an excerpt from on 'The Stapleton-Bretherton family and the mission of St Bartholomew's, Rainhill' by J.F. Giblin.
