| Admin_History | Thomas Moore was born in Stockton-on-Tees on 3 September 1901. Moore worked in agriculture and engineering in his early life before joining the Society of Jesus on 7 September 1926. He joined the noviceship at Manresa in Roehampton. After taking his first vows at the end of his novitiate in January 1929, Moore stayed on at Manresa in the position of assistant cook. Between 1933 and 1940, Moore served as head cook at Manresa, although his duties and responsibilities extended far beyond cooking.
During the Second World War, Moore served as a cook at St Beuno's (1940) and Birmingham (1941), and as a cook and sacristan at St Peter's School in Southbourne (1942-1944). Then, between 1944 and 1961, Br Moore was the sacristan at the busy parish church of St Wilfrid's in Preston. After seventeen years in this position in Preston, Moore was based at Sunderland between 1963 and 1967. Finally, Br Moore spent the last ten years of his life in the position of cook at Petworth.
When the Jesuit house at Petworth had to be closed in June 1977, Moore was posted to Stonyhurst. However, he quickly became ill with shingles and related complications and was admitted to Our Lady of Compassion Nursing Home in Blackburn in August 1977. He died in hospital on 18 September 1977. Moore's funeral and burial were held at Stonyhurst College shortly after his death.
