Description | A journal kept by Law during his mission towards the Zambezi. It includes words and phrases in Zulu, daily bearings taken on their journey and maps as well as drawings of landscapes and people. There are loose inserts of maps and a semi-circular cut out from a painting which on the back has been made into a protractor. Also inserted is the diary kept in pencil of Law's final weeks of life in a hut in Umzila's Kraal. The last entry here is 13 October. Another insert is a letter to Fr Antony de Wit SJ from Law dated 27 September 1880, and a page in Fr Antony de Wit's handwriting giving an account of Law's speech to Umzila or to Umzila's head officers. |
