Description | Brother Clare was a keen historian, publishing several books on the themes of religious history, Irish immigration to Scotland, agriculture and 'navvies' (labourers on civil engineering projects such as canals and railways). He was Chairman of the Scottish Catholic History Committee from 1951 - 1963. His published works were published under his Christian name of James E. Handley.
