Description | This pull-out from a publishing proof shows a formal photograph of an unsmiling Bishop Maguire, with his hands on his knees and dressed in his bishop's attire with a pectoral crucifix; a handwritten report on the back of the proof states that it is from the Report of the 19th Eucharistic Congress, Westminster 1908; Bishop Maguire was born in Glasgow on 8th September 1851 and ordained on 27th March 1875; he was consecrated in Glasgow on 11th June 1894, as Bishop Auxiliary; translated to Glasgow by Brief of 4th August 1902, and announced in Consistory on 25th June 1903; he received Pallium on the following day; he died in Glasgow on 14th October 1920, aged 69; further details of Bishop Maguire's life can be found on pp 293 to 298 of the 1920-1922 edition of The Catholic Directory. |
