DatesAndPlacesFr George Leopold Bampton was born 26 July 1816, in London, England. He was a convert to the Catholic faith, and a medical practitioner at Plymouth. He entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus 4 February 1845, at Hodder, being then a secular priest. In 1852, after serving the missions of Bristol and London for short periods, he was sent to St Beuno’s College, to repeat theology. He was a missioner at Blackpool in 1855, and was made a Spiritual Coadjutor on 28 March 1857. He was then sent to Edinburgh, and in 1863 to Newhall (Chelmsford), where he was suddenly seized with paralysis when concluding a sermon to his congregation. He died a few days later, on 10 November 1865.
