Description
Publicity material and correspondence relating to the Chaolloner Club, a national social centre for Catholics, dedicated to Our Lady of Walsingham and St Thomas More and named after Bishop Challoner. The Club was located in Pont Street, London, and the file includes a brochure with black and white photographs of the interior of the building. There are also photographs of Club social events showing HE Cardinal Norman Gilroy, Archbishop of Sydeny, Maureen Connolly ( the American tennis champion known as Little Mo), Arhbishop Godfrey , Frederick Boland, the Irish Ambassador, and the South African actress, Moira Lister. The Club hosted social functions, lectures and meetings, provided accommodation, dining and other Club amenities for its members, and was open to Catholics, who could bring in non-Catholic visitors. There is an introductory letter from one of the Club's Committee members, Mr R L Weisweiller, addressed to Peter Amigo, Bishop of Southwark.
