TitleWestminster Catholic Federation: Catholic Action
Date1939
LevelFile
DescriptionThe Catholic Action movement evolved in the latter part of the 19th century to counteract a rise in anti-clerical sentiment, especially in Europe. Across the world, a variety of lay groups and Catholic organisations drew together under the title. In London, Catholic Action came under the aegis of the Westminster Catholic Federation.

The file includes agendas for meetings of the Board of Direction for Westminster Catholic Action (1939), together with a precis of replies to the Boards's Circular of 2 Feb 1939 regarding Catholic Action courses, and a memorandum on the appointment of officers to the Westminster Board of Catholic Action together with a list of their duties. The correspondence includes details of staff interviewed and recruited to the post of Assistant to the Secretary of the Westminster Catholic Federation. There is also correspondence regarding a proposed Subscription Fund for Parochial Catholic Action Council for the Archdiocese of Westminster, raised through parochial councils (1939).

The remainder of the file comprises mainly financial matters, namely a report of the Finance Committee Meeting held on 11 May 1939 and a concluding meeting held on 19 June 1939, an agenda for the Finance Committee meeting August 1939, and a set of accounts and balance sheet for the year ended 30 June 1939 prepared by R F Sheppard & Co Chartered Accountants

There is also a small press article on the reorganisation of Catholic Action agreed between the Vatican and the Fascist Italian Government.
