| Description | Letter to Manning describing the current difficulties in the higher education of Catholics; in particular the indifference he has encountered in attempting to teach them. He believes that the London site for the College is best; not least because it minimises the possibility that athletics will come to dominate the establishment. He feels that the reasons for failure have been the lack of ambition on the part of the parents, the lack of interest on the part of the students, and the lack of “direct and energetic” support of the Bishops. He also criticises the lack of an entrance examination which has lead to students who “would have been rejected as incompetent” being accepted. |
