Description
Black and white photograph of Cardinal Bourne leading a procession of priests during the National Congress of 1929, which marked the centenary of Catholic Emancipation (source: http//westminstercathedral.blogspot.com/2007/09/national-catholic-congress-1929.html). Bourne can be seen wearing a long patterned lace surplice, an intricately embroidered cope secured with what appears to be an ornate morse clasp. Bourne is also holding a bishop's crosier in his left hand. The Cardinal is flanked by two senior clerics who are both wearing matching embroidered chausibles and biretta hats. Bourne attended the Roman Catholic Emancipation celebrations at Westminster Cathedral and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
