The image was taken in the Hall of the Throne ( Throne Room) where Pope Pius X can be seen seated in the canopied Pontiff's Chair. The Pope is flanked by newly appointed cardinals who all appear to be wearing white fur shoulder capes on top of lace surplices, while flabellums (large feathered ceremonial fans) can be seen leaning against the tapestry backdrop either side of Pontiff's Chair. The reverse side of the image reads 'Rome Consistory 1911'.
