DescriptionA black and white photograph of Cardinal Bourne standing in the doorway of a barn which has been converted into a Catholic church. The Cardinal is flanked by uniformed men, most of whom appear to be army chaplains. It is believed that Bourne visited the Front specifically to conduct a service for the Irish troops. The reverse side of the image reads 'The Cardinal outside the Catholic Church of the Irish Brigade. It had been a barn.' The shot is believed to have been taken by official British war photographer, John Warwick Brooke.
