DateAugust 1926-January 1971
LevelItem
DescriptionA register of the professio fidei, a public profession of faith made in accordance with a formula approved by the Holy See when candidates took up certain positions within the church. The register gives candidate names, the date on which they made their profession, and the name of the Vicar General responsible.
The register also includes printed versions of the Professio Orthodoxae Fidei and the Formula Iurisiurandi. The latter was the oath against modernism required of "all clergy, pastors, confessors, preachers, religious superiors, and professors in philosophical-theological seminaries" of the Catholic Church from 1910 until 1967. It was instituted on 1 September 1910 by Pope Pius X in his motu proprio Sacrorum antistitum and rescinded on 17 July 1967 by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith with the approval of Paul VI.
