Description
Allen Hall was founded in 1568 by Cardinal William Allen in Douai, Northern France, to provide priests for the English Mission during penal times. Many of its first students were martyred for the faith. In 1793 the college moved to Old Hall Green, near Ware in Hertfordshire, remaining there until 1975 when it transferred to Chelsea. Allen Hall is the seminary of the Westminster Archdiocese under the authority of the Archbishop of Westminster and welcomes seminarians from other Dioceses of England & Wales, both in England and Wales, and from abroad. It serves the mission of Christ and his Church by training men for priestly ministry. This training seeks the personal, spiritual and intellectual growth and development of the candidate as he discerns whether God, through the Church, is indeed calling him to priestly ministry.
