DescriptionFront page report in 'The Universe' on the destruction of the church of Our Lady of Victories, Kensington, by an oil bomb in the early hours of Friday 13 September 1940. The article includes photographs of the ruined church looking towards the remains of the High Altar, and the marriage of Fusilier Tom Dowling and Miss Marth Coogan, performed by Fr James Finn in the Sacristy of the church on Saturday 14th September.
There is a photograph on page 3 of Canon Walton, Rector of Our Lady of Victories, and the congregation outside the Odeon Cinema, High Street Kensington, where Masses were held following the destruction of the church.
There is another article on page 7 about the church of Our Lady of Victories together with a photograph of the charred crucifix affixed to the wall of the Sacristy and another photograph showing the ruined High Altar.
The edition also includes a photograph on page 12 of Fr Michael Moriarty and Fr John Coughlan roof-spotting at Westminster Cathedral as part of a squad of 20 air raid wardens based there.
