Description
Manuscript by W J White, 66 Westborn [now Bourne] Street, Pimlico, dedicated in verse "To the Ladies Gallini" [Joyce Ann Gallini and Louise Gallini]. The manuscript comprises poem describing the Catholic history of Kilburn Vale, divided into 4 parts. There is brief, hand-written history of the area written in prose by W I White which completes the manuscript. Although the identity of WJ White is not known, and the manuscript is undated, it was probably written aroun 1836, when the church of Our Lady, St John's Wood, was first opened, as the Gallini sisters had used their father's inheritance to build what was thought to be the first new Catholic church in London since the Emancipation Act of 1829.
The manuscript is written on gilt-edged paper, with an embossed stamp in the top left-hand corner depicting a crown surmounting the word BATH. The manuscript appears to have been backed in more recent times using a piece of heavy-weight cream paper.
