TitleCorespondence: proposed construction of a Chapel at the Guinness Factory, Park Royal
DateAugust 1935
LevelFile
DescriptionThe Guinness Brewery, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and built between 1933 and 1936 , was opened in 1937. It was the largest factory built in the UK between the Wars, employing around 45,000 workers and producing Guinness for the whole of the UK. In 1997, when Guinness merged with Grand Metropolitan to create a new company, Diageo, the Park Royal site became their headquarters. Diageo ceased production at the brewery in 2005, and, despite campaigns to save the unlisted buildings, demolished the entire factory in 2006.

At the time of its construction, it was assumed that many of the workers coming to the new factory would be Irish Catholics who would require a nearby place of worship. The file includes part of an Ordnance Survey map with relevant Catholic insitutions and the site of the proposed Guinness factory marked in red ink, as well s a list of parish boundary markers.
