Description
Charles Plowden was a Jesuit priest and prolific writer, who supported the Vicars Apostolic in their disagreements with the Catholic Comittee over the wording of the Oath which formed part of the proposed Catholic Relief Act, passsed in 1791. The letter is a refutation of accusations levelleled at him over his criticisms of the actions of the Catholic Committee, in particular the Committee's Secretary, Charles Butler, who is quoted at length in the letter.
