Description
A printed response by Charles Walmsley, Vicar Apostolic, to a letter written by the Committee of English Catholics on Nov 25 1789 to the four Apostolic Vicars, signed by Charles Berington, Joseph Wilkes, [Lord Robert] Petre, John Throckmorton, William Fermor, John Townley and Thomas Hornyold. The Catholic Committee and Walmsley disagreed over the proposed new Oath of Allegiance, which the Committee felt to be purely political while Walmsley believed it to be equally religious and favoured a return to the 1778 version of the Oath.
