DescriptionJoseph Tyrer was the Jesuit chaplain at Plowden Hall. The letters were written to his local Superiors based at St Winifred, Holywell, Flintshire. The papers mention the Stoner and Plowden families.
Admin_HistorySee "Three Jesuits at Plowden Hall in Shropshire in the Eighteenth Century" by William Price, an article published by 'Recusant History', Volume 10. Issue No 3, October 1969, pp 165-175. The article is based on the letters of some of the Jesuit chaplains at Plowden Hall, which are now held together in the Historical series. According to William Price, the letters (original reference AAW/155) were found by Miss Elisabeth Poyser, Archivist to the Archbishop of Westminster from from 1965 - 1989, in a trunk of papers labelled 'Cardinal Vaughan, c. 1900', wrapped in old newspapers.
