Admin_History | Brother James Clayton was born in Langho, Blackburn, Lancashire on 13th July 1907, his father’s name was John and his mother’s maiden name was Ashton. He entered the Society as a brother novice at Roehampton on 26th April 1935, took his first vows on 27th April 1937 and his final vows on 15th August 1945. In 1937 he trained to work in the garden at Manresa House, Roehampton before moving in 1939 to become gardener at St Bruno’s, Noth Wales. In 1945 James moved to St Gabriel’s Retreat House, Harborne, Birmingham where he spent 24 years working as the cook, gardener and housekeeper. In 1969 he went to the parish of Hythe were he spent a further 15 years as the housekeeper of two priests. In January 1984 James was taken ill and in August 1984 was moved to Twyford Abbey, he died on the 18th November 1984 in the Central Middlesex Hospital. |
