| Admin_History | Paul Magill was born on 20th January 1913. He was schooled at St Michael’s Convent, North Finchley.
From September 1923 until July 1930, he was at Stonyhurst. He studied chemistry at University College London, where he became President of the Catholic Society, and then President of the Union Society. He did not graduate, but went on to join the Society.
After studying philosophy at Heythrop, he was sent to Oxford during WWII to try again, unsuccessfully, to obtain his degree. He then taught at Mount St Mary’s before proceeding to Heythrop for theology.
He was ordained in September 1946 at Farm Street.
In 1947 he was appointed to teach at Stonyhurst. After a year at St Beuno’s for his tertianship in 1950-51, he returned to Stonyhurst, where he remained for the rest of his life. During this time, he helped to develop a careers room at Stonyhurst, and became the Secretary for the Stonyhurst Lourdes pilgrimage.
In 1984 he was diagnosed with a malignant tumour on the liver, and was nursed at the Servite Sisters’ hospital in Blackburn, where he died on 1st January 1985. He was buried in the Jesuit graveyard at St Peter’s church, Stonyhurst. |
