Admin_History
The parish of South Wimbledon had been founded in 1882 by the Society of Jesus. Prior to the building of St Winefride's, Mass was celebrated at St Mary's School in Russell Road and also at the Catholic Institute (now the site of St Winefride's parish hall). The church of St Winefride's was built in 1905. Edith Arendrup secured the land for the site and contributed towards the cost of building the church. The architect Frederick Walters who had designed the Sacred Heart Church was again commissioned. In 1961 control of the parish was passed to the secular clergy of the Archdiocese of Southwark.
