Admin_HistoryJohn McCluskey was born at Dalkeith in Scotland on 18 September 1870. He was the eldest of five brothers and two sisters. He began his education at St David's Catholic School, Dalkeith, and at the age of fourteen was sent to Mount St Mary's. He entered the Novitiate at Roehampton 7 September 1891. He took his First Vows and entered upon his juniorate in 1892, and then, after the usual two years, was sent to teach at Beaumont College, remaining there for three years. He went to his theological course at Milltown Park, and was ordained there 2 August 1903. After completing his fourth year of theology he was sent to Stonyhurst as a Master for one year, going in 1905 to do his Tertianship at Tronchiennes, which he completed at Manresa House, Roehampton.

Between 1906 and 1912 he was 'Operarius' at St Joseph's, Glasgow, and took his final vows 2 February 1907. In 1912 he took charge of the parish of the Sacred Heart, Edinburgh. On 20 February 1920 he returned to St Joseph's as Superior, however his by this time suffering with poor health. In March the following year he underwent an emergency operation after a month's illness, however his condition deteriorated and he died four days later, 22 March 1921.
