| Admin_History | Fr Matthew Ingram was born in Edinburgh on 3 January 1881 to a large family.
Whilst studying at Stonyhurst, Fr Ingram unsuccessfully applied to enter the Navy. On completion of his schooling he joined the Society of Jesus on 7 September 1899. As a scholastic he taught at Wimbledon College between 1905 and 1911. He studied theology at Milltown Park and was ordained priest in July 1914 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Edinburgh. At the outbreak of the First World War, Fr Ingram was teaching at Stonyhurst College. In 1915 he went to France as an army chaplain. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1919.
After the war, Fr Ingram served as Subminister at Stonyhurst College and then taught at Beaumont College between 1922 and 1926. He then moved to Wimbledon College as a Master and was appointed Rector of the College in September 1934.
Fr Ingram died on 17 January 1941 at Stonyhurst after a long period of ill-health. His Requiem Mass was held at Stonyhurst on 20 January 1941.
