Admin_HistoryJuan de Ayala, born John Dalyell in Edinburgh, spent nearly all of his life abroad. He seems to have been an agent or trouble-shooter in Madrid especially in pleitos and especially for those who could not be in Madrid themselves. He sent money to Francis Semple (Colonel Semple's illegitimate son) and probably acted for the College in its complaints against Bobadilla. He seems to have been unmarried and without heirs, but there is no positive evidence that he was a priest. He made Hugh Semple his executor and left everything to the College. He died in 1652, asking to be buried in the College Chapel. Thereafter Hugh Semple tried to collect money which had been owing to Ayala.
