4th ed. Longmans & Co, London.

Contains a letter inside from Cardinal Newman to Peter Paul Pugin. The letter reads as follows:

The Oratory, Febr. 10. 1875

My dear Sir,
I have received from you your lamented Father's address, and thank you very much for the gift. It has given me great pleasure to read it. It is an exposition of great and most important principles, and is written in a frank, straightforward forcible style. It was a satisfaction to see that he had used the word "breakwater" of the Church of England before me, as showing by the coincidence between us that the term was a natural and suitable description of its relation to the Catholic Church. I am, My dear Sir, Very truly yours, John H Newman.
