Description
The Roman Senate, learning of the ceremony of the canonization of the 26 Japanese Martyrs and of St. Michael Desanctis by Pope Pius IX and the assembly of Bishops there, decided to confer on these Bishops the Roman citizenship. Thomas Grant is made a citizen of Rome with all the privileges of this noble citizenship. The document is signed by Mattei and 8 other senators and Aloisius Venutelli as secretary.
A parallel document conferring citizenship to Bishop Francis McFarland of Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A. is to be found in the archive of the University of Notre Dame, U.S.A.
