Description | Mgr. Vernon Johnson (1886-1969), a former Anglican minister and Catholic convert through encountering the life and writings of St. Therese of Lisieux. Johnson wrote several books on St. Thérèse and founded the Association of Priests of St. Teresa. Research documents and documents relating to the Association were passed to Gordon Albion following Johnson's death. These in turn were added to by Albion, who worked on a Festschrift for Johnson.
The documents include correspondence, pamphlets, research notes, draft papers, photographs.
Correspondents include Ronnie (Mgr Ronald Knox) of The Old Palace, Oxford, 1929 (Johnson and Knox were friends and Knox translated the Autobiography of St. Thérèse).
Typescript sections from the book include 'Mgr. Johnson's Silver Jubilee of Priesthood', 1958; his 80th birthday celebrations, 1966; his funeral, 27 October 1969; Panegyric preached at 'Reqiuem for Mgr. Vernon Johnson concelebrated in Westminster Cathedral', 27 October 1969; 'Vernon's Speeches at Convert Aid Society Meetings'; Vernon's Writings'; 'Vernon's Memories of Ronnie; an account by Hilda Johnson, Vernon's sister, June 1964.
Photographs include Johnson in Lourdes, 1960, with Fr. Vincent Lucas, Dr. Charles Hann, Fr. Trant McCarthy; Johnson pictured with Pope Pius XII; Johnson in Lourdes shortly before his death and on his death bed; pilgrimages to Lisieux.
