James Barry; Born in Cardiff 1877; In 1887 Lord Bute was scouring his enormous estates (which included much of Cardiff) for boys who could sing, to serve as choristers in Oban. That year Lady Bute open a branch orphanage with three of the nuns from Rothesay - the Servants of the Sacred Heart - to house the boys for the cathedral choir. One of the first boys was James Barry - age Ten. In 1890 he went on to Blairs College, thence in 1894 to Pairs, in 1895 to Issy, in 1897 to S. Sulpice in Paris, and he was ordained priest in Oban in 1901; After about tow years as curate in Fort William he took up his first and only charge in Glencoe in 1903; Work began at Kinlochleven (British Aluminium Co.) about 1906. In 1909 he built the church of Out Lady & St. John on the hillside there; About this time he built the presbytery in Glencoe. Became a Canon in 1924. Died 16th February 1926. and was buried in Oban
