Description | During the civil war in the region previously known as Biafra, refugees from Enugu and Ogoja sought shelter in the Marist Brothers' compound in Uturu. The Brothers spent their time during the war caring for the refugees and wounded soldiers. They continued these efforts after the end of the war in 1970, eventually setting up a Rehabilitation Centre in 1971 which trained people left disabled by the war in various crafts by which they could make a living. They also facilitated the supply of artificial limbs for amputees. Contains: Administration and reports; Correspondence; Photographs; Programmes and publications; News cuttings; General Papers |
