For the first three years of their community in Dumfries, the Brothers used the old infirmary as a novitiate and school, both referred to as St. Joseph's. After a purpose-built school was constructed on the property in 1909, the rest of the existing buildings were used as a novitiate, boarding accommodation and as Provincial House.
