DescriptionFor the first three years of their community in Dumfries, the Brothers used the old infirmary as a novitiate and school, both referred to as St. Joseph's. In 1877, the Brothers purchased Laurelmount on Craig's Road and built a new novitiate named Mount St. Michael (although it is also referred to as St. Joseph's novitiate). After a purpose-built school was constructed on the property in 1909, the rest of the existing buildings were used as a novitiate, boarding accommodation and as Provincial House.
