Description
1874 - Brothers arrive in Dumfries and set up 'St. Joseph's' - novitiate and school in the old infirmary buildings on Craig's Road. In 1877, the Brothers purchased Laurelmont and renamed it Mount St. Michael's, using it as a novitiate. The old infirmary was used as a Juniorate from 1891 - 1939, when the juniorate was moved to Hetland House, beside Carrutherstown, and renamed Champagnat House. In 1909 the Brothers constructed a new building within the Mount St. Michael compound, which was used as St. Joseph's College. The other buildings within the compound were used as a novitiate, boarding accommodation and as the Provincial House until Kinharvie was purchased in 1951. Contains: General Papers relating to the Brothers in Dumfries; St Joseph's College; Old Juniorate; Hetland Juniorate; Mount St Michael; Kinharvie House
