Description | This postcard bears a photograph on the front, stating "RC Church, Braes of Glenlivet"; the view shows an old church surrounded by trees, with a statue of Our Lady above the doorway; St Mary's Church was built in 1829 then rebuilt in 1897 and re-named Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in 1899; the entries in The Catholic Directory for 1897 and 1898 for Chapeltown still state the church's name as St Mary's and the entry for 1897 for Chapeltown states "A new church is being built in this Mission, and funds are being raised to meet the expenses." |
