Description | The Big Library Manuscript Volumes collection contains some of the most important single items held by Ushaw College. A great proportion of the collection is students' dictates (the daily method of teaching in the English seminaries was daily dictation). These dictates are mostly from the English College in Douai with some from Ushaw College. The dictates are bound, although the binding is often of a much later date than the manuscript, and it is likely that the dictates were subsequently reworked by the student at a later point in time. A number of the volumes are also manuscript copies of other works, mostly rare, on the subject of recusant history, religious controversy or devotional works from monasteries and convents. Finally, there are also a handful of volumes pertaining to other aspects of the history of the English College in Douai Ushaw College, including diaries and rule books. |
