Admin_History'The Month' was a monthly publication owned and operated by the British Province of the Society of Jesus from 1865 until its closure in 2001. Originally founded and edited by Frances Margaret Taylor 'The Month' was first approached by the Jesuits in 1864, though sole ownership of 'The Month' by the Jesuits was not until July 1865. The chief promotors for the publication at this time were Fr Weld, who became Provincial in the same year, and Fr Gallwey, a Provincial a few years later. From 1950s onwards the publication underwent numerous developments and changes, including mergers with both the 'Dublin Review' in 1969, and 'Herder Correspondence' in [1970]. In 2000-2001 St Austin's Press, a small Catholic publishing house based in London, offered to buy-out 'The Month', however talks eventually fell through, resulting in the closure of 'The Month' in 2001.
