Admin_HistoryFr Vincent Norbury SJ was born 16 June 1916 in Liverpool, Mersyside and was educated at St Edward’s College, Merseyside. Prior to entering the Society of Jesus on 8 April 1937 at the age of 21, he had taken a job in a shipping and insurance business where he remained for roughly four years.

He began his Juniorate at Heythrop College in 1940 and over the next 13 years completed his Philosophy and Regency at Beaumont, his Theology and his Tertianship at St Beuno’s, North Wales. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1950. He was posted as assistant priest to Fr Arthur Whittet SJ at Spinkhill and held this post for five years. He was then appointed parish priest himself with Fr Niall Corbett SJ as his assistant, in which office he remained for a further ten years.

In 1968 Fr Norbury was appointed parish priest at St Mary-on-the-Quay, where he served until 1977. He then took the pastoral year course at Heythrop. In 1979, after a short spell in Glasgow, he joined the parish staff at Worcester where he was chaplain to the Battenhall nuns, hospital chaplain, and in between times a retreat giver and a much sought after spiritual director. He died on 25 January 1982 at Worcester.
