  <dc:title>Literary and debating groups</dc:title>
<dc:description>A formal Literary Society was formed at Wonersh on 20th October 1908 , under the presidency of Mr Curwen. (see Wonersh Magazine, Winter 1946, p. 35, for a history of the Society). There had been less formal groups previously, and debates were held from the earliest years. In 1927, a number of students formed 'The 21 Club' which was a 'purely literary society' and ran alongside 'The Literary Society'. (See SJW/EXT/3/1/2 for a 'brief account of its origins'.). The 21 Club seems to have been absorbed into The Literary Society later </dc:description>
