He was educated at St Ignatius College, Stamford Hill, and joined the novitiate at Manresa House, Roehampton on 7th September 1948 at the age of 18. During his time as a novice the novitiate moved to Harlaxton, where he took his First Vows. After a year’s juniorate back in Roehampton, he was sent to Chantilly, France, to study for a two-year licentiate in philosophy. A third year of philosophy, and a year’s teaching certificate, both in Rehampton, followed, after which he did a three-year regency at Mount St Mary’s. Between 1958 and 1962 he studied theology at Heythrop in Oxfordshire, being ordained priest there on St Ignatius’ Day in 1961. Immediately after completing his fourth year of theology he made tertianship in Paray-le-Monial in France, and then moved to Campion Hall in Oxford for a degree in French. While there, in 1965 he won the Heath Harrison Travelling Scholarship. Between 1966 and 1975 he taught at Stonyhurst, acting as spiritual father there for several of those years. In 1975 he was appointed as Superior of St Beuno’s, but then after two years moved to St George’s College in what was then Salisbury, Rhodesia, as Rector. He served a six-year term, and then had a sabbatical in Oxford. 1984 saw a return to Stonyhurst as Rector, and nine years later he once again became Superior at St Beuno’s. From 1996 he combined this role with being Editor of Letters and Notices, a position that he held for twelve years. In 1998 he moved to Farm Street as Parish Priest, and then in 2004 to St Wilfrid’s, Preston, as Minister. Between 2011 and 2012 he caried out local ministries from the community in Wapping, and in the latter year joined the parish staff at Sacred Heart, Wimbledon. Finally in 2017 he retired to the Corpus Christi community in Boscombe, where he stayed until his death, 23 September 2021.</Nationality>
