He was admitted as a scholar to Trinity College, Oxford, 13 June 1576 and elected Fellow in 1579. He was received into the Catholic Church at Rhiems 7 November 1582, and entered the English College in Rome to repeat his studies and make his theology on 1 October 1583. He was ordained priest there in December 1584, and entered the Society in 1594. His name frequently appears in the State Paper volumes in the Public Record Office (now The National Archives). He was Penitentiary at St Peter's, Rome, for some time, and in c 1597 he wrote an account of several of the English Martyrs, with many of whom he had been aquainted since 1578.
