He left the University of Oxford for Douai in 1570/1 and was received into the Catholic Church. He studied theology and took his degree in 1577, and was ordained priest the following year. He was sent to England in June 1580, but was arrested on landing at Dover and sent to the Privy Council to be examined by Francis Walsingham. As his family was well known and of position, he was allowed three months liberty on parole of honour, during which time he was given permission to go to Oxford to confer with John Reynolds/Rainolds on matters of controversy between the English and Roman churches. He returned to Walsingham stronger in his Catholic faith, and was sent first to the Marshalsea Prison and then to the Tower of London. He was condemned to death with Edmund Campion and his companions but was reprieved on the day of the execution, 1 December 1581. He was sent back to prison, and admitted to the Society in early 1583. He was sent into banishment with several other priests, 21/31 January 1585. He first went to Verdun, then Rome, and died at Jarislau in Poland, 17 or 19 July 1586. According to the Necrology of the Province he died 1595. According to More and Tanner in their histories, seven years after his death, his body was found incorrupt, and translated to a more honourable resting place.</Nationality>
