Michael Ross was born in Eltham, Kent, 28 May 1916, and educated at Beaumont. He joined the Society at Roehampton in 1934, took first vows there and then did two years of juniorate. In 1938 Michael went to Heythrop for philosophy and then did the extended regency which was typical of those war years, three years’ teaching at Stonyhurst and two more at Beaumont. He returned to Heythrop for theology in 1946 and was ordained in 1948. On completing his theology Michael dd the tertianship at St Beuno’s and was sent to Beaumont, where for the next fifteen years his principal ministry was teaching physics, although for a time he was Minister and later had charge of the practicalities of the grounds and gardens along with the accounts. When Beaumont closed Michael joined the then Salisbury Mission and was assigned to St George’s College, where his younger brother Hugh was Prefect of Studies, to teach physics and mathematics. That was to be the framework of Michael’s life until 1998, when increasing frailness required a move to greater care in Richartz House. It was there that he died 27 May 2001.
