was born 14 May 1945 in Crema, Italy, the eldest of three boys and two girls. In his infancy the family moved to South Africa, where he had all his schooling from the age of six, first at Edenvale in the Transvaal, then for a further two years with the Marist Brothers in Port Elizabeth, and finally for six years at St Aidan’s in Grahamstown. On leaving school, Claudio studied art for a year and then in 1965 entered the major seminary in Pretoria as a student for the diocese of Port Elizabeth. On finishing his course of philosophy he was transferred to Propaganda Fide in Rome, completing his theology there in 1970 with ordination as deacon in December of that year. He returned to his diocese of Port Elizabeth and served there as a deacon until the end of 1972. He entered the Society at Rainhill in March 1973, and in his second year studied for the diploma in pastoral theology at Heythrop. He took his first vows at Farm Street in 1975 and then finished the diploma course at Heythrop while living at Stamford Hill. Claudio was ordained priest at San Giacchino in Rome later in 1975 by Cardinal Rossi (no relation) and then was assigned to the Mount Pleasant parish at Salisbury, Rhodesia. After four years there he was moved to the parish at Braamfontein in Johannesburg and two years later he was appointed chaplain to the Groote Schurr hospital in Cape Town. In 1983 Claudio returned to his country for the tertianship at St Beuno’s. In 1984 he joined the church staff at Stamford Hill and in 1988 moved to Bristol, where he became parish priest and superior a year later. In 1996 he had sabbatical leave at Palestrina with several months supplying at Braamfontein. In 1997 Claudio supplied as assistant priest at St Robert Bellarmine’s, Rome, and was then on supply in the diocese of Port Elizabeth. In 1998 he was appointed parish priest at Braamfontein and a year later superior of the Jesuits in Johannesburg. In 2001 Claudio was expecting a new appointment on sabbatical at the Bellarmino until in 2003 he was appointed chaplain at the Sapienza University in Rome. He died in an accident while on his weekly visit to his mother in Palestrina on 31 May 2006.</Nationality>
