Fr Henry Brigham SJ was born 23 June 1796, in Manchester, England. He made his humanity studies at Stonyhurst College; entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus at Hodder (Lancashire), on 7 September 1813, and was made Spiritual Coadjutor 15 August 1837. He studied theology at Clongowes College, Ireland, and was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest, 1 June 1822. After completing a course of teaching at Stonyhurst College, he was appointed to the Hereford mission 10 December 1827. On 2 October 1834 he was removed to Preston; July 23 1836 to Bury St Edmund’s; in 1842-1843 was declared Superior of the College of the Holy Apostle. In September 1845, he again became Prefect of Studies at Stonyhurst. He then served the mission of Pontefract, Teignmouth, and Ugbrooke, and in 1865 was made Professor of Elocution at St Stanislaus’ College, Beaumont (Old Windsor), where he died 26 May 1881.
