Br William Cardiff SJ was born 2 or 7 August 1832, in Ballymore Eustace (Kildare), Ireland. He entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus on 12 July 1855, at Beaumont. He had previously lived in Liverpool, where he had been engaged in the shoemaking trade. He was the shoemaker at Beaumont Novitiate for some years, and was then sent to St Francis Xavier’s College, Liverpool. He took his final vows in the Society of Jesus 2 February 1866. Attacked by consumption, he was removed to the Manresa Novitiate, Roehampton, and thence again to Beaumont, where he died 20 June 1870.
