He made his humanity studies at Stonyhurst College, and entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus 7 September 1818. In 1827 he was appointed Prefect of Studies and Professor of Rhetoric at Stonyhurst College. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest 30 November 1830, by Bishop Thomas Penswick. On 12 March 1833 he was appointed Minister of Stonyhurst, on 14 January 1834 he left for Rome and was presented by the Father General to the Pope before departing for the new Calcutta mission. He sailed from Portsmouth on 31 May 1834, with Frs Richard Sumner and Hippolitus More, and Br Monier, and arrived at Calcutta on 8 October the same year. On 16 June 1835 he took possession of the house given to the Society by Mr Fattollah, and opened schools in the following July. He was professed of the four vows 15 August 1835, in the Church of Calcutta. He returned to England 9 June 1838, on account of sickness, and, after again visiting Rome, sailed from Portsmouth for Calcutta on 21 June 1839. In May 1842 he returned to England again, and, after serving the missions of Worcester (July 1842), Stockheld Park (December 1842), Holywell (1844-1846), London (1851), he died as a missioner at Oxford 5 March 1857.</Nationality>
