Henry Chadwick SJ was born 28 September 1805, in Preston, England. He was the younger brother of Fr Francis Chadwick SJ. Educated at Stonyhurst College, he entered the legal profession at Preston, where he practised as a solicitor for some years. He entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus, at Hodder, on 7 September 1835, and was appointed Prefect at Stonyhurst College 8 August 1838. On Passion Sunday, 5 April 1840, he had gone as usual to Holy Communion, and died suddenly at the supper table in the evening.
