Fr James Chamberlain SJ was born 20 September 1739, and entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus 7 September 1758. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest c.1770, and, after the Suppression of the Society in 1773, went to the West Indian missions, dying in Demerara (Guyana), on 1 March 1779.
