Charles Thomas Clifford SJ was born 8 or 13 September 1828, at Kenilworth Castle (Warwick), England, to Charles Thomas Clifford and his wife Teresa, daughter of Marmaduke Constable Maxwell. He made his humanity studies at Stonyhurst College, and entered the English Province of the Society of Jesus 7 September 1845, at Hodder. After taking his simple vows he was sent to Belgium, for his higher studies, in September 1847. Returning to Stonyhurst, he died of rapid consumption at St Wilfrid’s, Preston, on 21 April 1852. He was buried in the Stonyhurst College cemetery.
